"Ah! Je veux vivre"
Sin-Sim Tan,

Translation:

Ah! I want to live in the dream
which intoxicates me yet today!
Sweet flame, I keep you in my soul
like a treasure!

The intoxication of youth
only lasts (Alas!) but a day.
Then comes the hour when one weeps,
The heart yields to love,
and happiness flies away
without return!

Ah! I want to live in the dream
which intoxicates me for a long time still!

Far from gloomy winter let me slumber,
And to breathe in the scent of the rose
before it sheds its petals.

Ah! Sweet flame, stay within my soul
like a sweet treasure for a long time yet!

 About the Aria

This aria is from Gounod's Romeo et Juliette, and is sung by the character "Juliette." While others try to speak to Juliette about marriage, Juliette sings of the joys of youth before one must give one's heart away.
